It is common fact that as we grow older, our sight diminshes and we fall risk to conditions such as cataracts and glaucoma. Residents with visual impairment are at an increased risk of falling and injuring themselves.
The section for Preventing Falls and Harm from Falls in Older People, in The Best Practice Guidelines For Australian Hospitals and Aged Care Facilities; 2005 by the Saftey and Quality Council, quotes "Ensure annual eye examinations are undertaken to reduce the incidence of visual impairment ... associated with an increased falls risk."
Clinicall's Optometrists can carry our comprehensive annual eye examinations to ensure your residents ocular health is managed and may prescribe glasses if deemed suitable, to ensure the resident has improved spacial perception. Spectacles will also improve a residents quality of life, allowing them to read better, watch TV and participate in other activities.
The Eyecare Assessment
- Will review the residents' ocular health and vision
- The sight tests are bulk-billed to Medicare/DVA as appropriate, therefore incurring no cost to the facility
- Clinicall will provide a full spectacle dispensing service as required upon approval
- Optometrists and Eye Care support staff will liaise with Facility Staff, Residents, Carers and NOKs
- Our documentation will provide a full report containing all relevant information including refraction, visual acuities, pathology, recommendations and referrals where necessary
- Optometrists will review progressive conditions including diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, cataracts and macular degeneration and provide updated medical progress notes
